Terms of Use
1. Who we are and acceptance
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) apply when you access or use StoryBee.ca, StoryBee.Space, the books and educational material made available through them, AP® Knowledge Prep for AP® Macroeconomics and AP® Microeconomics, and their related features (together, the “Services”). The Services are operated and provided by StoryBee Inc. (“StoryBee”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). StoryBee Inc., West Solution Consulting Corp., and The National Research Institute for Democratized Learning may each publish or provide particular books or content available through the Services (together, the “StoryBee Publishers”).
By accessing or using the Services, by creating an account, by buying a Subject Pass, or by selecting “Agree and continue” or ticking the box where that option is presented, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services. The Legal Notices, Fair Use Notice, Disclaimers, and Refund Policy form part of these Terms where applicable. The Privacy Policy and Cookies and Local Storage Notice explain our information practices and do not limit rights that cannot legally be waived.
If these documents conflict, these Terms control contractual matters, the Privacy Policy controls the description of personal-information practices, and a book-specific rights or credit notice controls the identification of that book’s publisher and rights holders.
2. Public access and member accounts
StoryBee.ca currently makes its free illustrated books available to read without charge and without sign-up. Free reading access is not a promise that every book, feature, or period of access will always remain available or free of charge.
StoryBee.ca also offers member accounts. Members sign in with a one time code sent to their email address, can save their progress, and can buy Subject Passes for StoryBee Prep: AP® Macroeconomics and StoryBee Prep: AP® Microeconomics. StoryBee.Space may provide separate account features using Squarespace authentication. Any new eligibility requirements, account terms, or charges will be presented before they apply.
3. Eligibility and accounts held by adults
You must be 18 or over to create a StoryBee account or to buy anything from StoryBee. By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or over. All purchases are made by the adult who holds the account. Children may not independently create or manage a StoryBee account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Services only through an adult account holder, who must be a parent or guardian or have your parent or guardian’s agreement, and who accepts these Terms on your behalf.
An adult account holder may let a learner aged 13 to 17 use the account under the holder’s supervision, for example a parent, guardian, or teacher studying alongside a student. The holder is responsible for that use and for making sure it follows these Terms. The holder keeps the sign in email and access to the account to themselves and must not hand the account over to the learner or anyone else.
No one under 13 may use member features or AP® Knowledge Prep. Younger children may still read public books under adult selection and supervision.
If StoryBee learns that an account is held by a person under 18, StoryBee may close that account.
Our books are created or curated for children’s knowledge and enjoyment, but an adult is responsible for selecting appropriate material and supervising a child’s use. We do not ask readers to submit their age merely to read the free illustrated books.
4. Sign in and account security
You sign in with a one time code that we send to your email address. You are responsible for all use of your account, including use by anyone you let study with it. Keep access to your email inbox secure, because sign in codes are sent there. One account belongs to one person. Do not share your account, your sign in codes, or your pass with anyone else.
Provide accurate information and contact us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission. You are not responsible for unauthorized activity caused by StoryBee’s breach of these Terms or failure to use reasonable safeguards.
5. The AP® Knowledge Prep service
AP® Knowledge Prep is independent study material written and published by StoryBee for AP® Macroeconomics and AP® Microeconomics. Each subject includes readings, practice questions, flashcards, free response practice, practice exams, and progress tracking and dashboards that show how you are doing. We may add, change, or remove subjects and features as described in section 17.
The free response practice is not graded by StoryBee. Where you score your own free response answers, the score is your own estimate and is labelled self reported.
6. Subject Passes
Access to the study material for a subject requires a Subject Pass for that subject. A Subject Pass covers only the subject named at checkout. One Subject Pass may be bought per subject per person, and a pass for one subject does not unlock another subject.
The price of a Subject Pass is CAD $249 for each of StoryBee Prep: AP® Macroeconomics and StoryBee Prep: AP® Microeconomics, plus any taxes that apply. The final amount is shown at checkout before you pay. Stripe may also show the price in your local currency, and the amount actually charged and any currency conversion are those shown by Stripe at checkout.
The period of access you buy (the “Access Period”) is 12 months from the purchase date. It starts when your payment is confirmed. A Subject Pass does not renew automatically and we do not charge you again unless you choose to buy another pass. When the Access Period ends, you can renew by buying a new pass for that subject from the subject’s page in AP® Learning. We do not promise that a renewal will be offered at the same price.
If your account or dashboard shows an end date, or you keep access, for longer than 12 months, the extra time is a courtesy that StoryBee gives at its sole discretion. It is not part of what you purchased, it is not promised, and we may change or withdraw it at any time without notice. Ending the courtesy time does not entitle you to a refund or any other remedy, to the extent the law allows.
A Subject Pass is a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and non-assignable licence to use the study material for your own study. You may not give, sell, lend, share, or transfer a pass or your access to anyone else.
When a pass ends, your progress, study plan, and reading history stay in your account. You can see them again, and pick up where you left off, if you buy a new pass for that subject.
7. Payment
Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment processor. You give your payment details to Stripe, not to StoryBee, and we do not see or store your card number. Stripe sends your receipt by email and its own terms and privacy policy apply to the payment. Stripe may show the price in your local currency. Promotion codes and offers are made available at our discretion, apply only as stated when they are issued, and may be withdrawn or limited at any time.
8. All sales are final
A Subject Pass is digital content that is available as soon as payment is made, so all sales are final and no refunds are given, except where the law of the place where you live requires one. See the Refund Policy for how to ask and what happens to your access.
If a payment is refunded in full or a payment dispute is decided against StoryBee, the pass bought with that payment ends. A partial refund does not end access. Deleting your account ends any active passes, and no refund is given. If you have questions, contact support@storybee.space before you buy.
9. No guarantee of results
StoryBee does not promise, guarantee, or predict any exam result, AP® score, grade, pass rate, improvement, college credit, course placement, admission, scholarship, or other outcome. Results depend on the student, including effort, prior knowledge, study habits, and the exam itself. Practice scores, progress figures, and study suggestions in the Services are for your own study. They do not predict a score on any real exam. The material is educational study material and nothing else.
10. Accuracy and official materials
We work to keep the content correct and current, but errors, omissions, and out of date items may exist, and content may change at any time. The Services are not a substitute for the College Board’s official materials. Students should check the official Course and Exam Description and the College Board’s current exam information, rules, and dates, and should ask their teacher or school where in doubt. If you find a mistake, please tell us at support@storybee.space.
11. Trademarks and no affiliation
AP® and Advanced Placement® are registered trademarks of the College Board, which was not involved in the production of, and does not endorse, this product/course.
We use the AP® name only to say which exam our independent study material is written for. The StoryBee name, logo, and original brand artwork belong to StoryBee Inc., as described in the Legal Notices.
12. Permission to use, intellectual property, and acceptable use
Subject to these Terms, StoryBee grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable permission to access the Services for personal, non-commercial reading, viewing, and study. Unless a download is expressly offered, the Services are intended for online use. The study material, questions, explanations, diagrams, software, and design belong to StoryBee or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws.
You must not copy, reproduce, record, republish, distribute, resell, sublicense, lend, mirror, scrape, data-mine, reverse engineer, circumvent technical protections or access controls, create derivative works from, or otherwise exploit the Services or their content except with written permission from the applicable rights holder or as permitted by applicable law. You must not use bots, scripts, crawlers, or other automated means to access or collect the Services, and you must not share your account or pass, or let anyone else use it.
You must not interfere with the Services, attempt unauthorized access, introduce malicious code, impersonate another person or StoryBee, use automated means in a harmful or excessive manner, or use the Services for fraud, abuse, infringement, or another unlawful purpose. This section does not prohibit assistive technologies, ordinary search-engine indexing, security research authorized by StoryBee, or another use protected by applicable law.
13. What you submit and your data
As you study, the Services record what you do, such as the answers you choose, your self scored free response results, your practice exam results, and your study time. We use this to show your progress and to run and improve the Services. You keep any rights you have in what you submit, and you give StoryBee a licence to store and process it to provide the Services to you. We may also use de-identified information, which does not identify you, to understand and improve the Services. The Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how long we keep it, and your choices.
14. AI-assisted and automated material
StoryBee may use software automation, machine-learning systems, or large-language-model tools to assist with website development, editorial preparation, classification, summaries, educational metadata, and related features. We use reasonable review and validation processes, but automated or AI-assisted material may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, bias, or unsuitable suggestions. The use of such tools does not mean that every StoryBee book, illustration, or statement was generated by AI.
You are responsible for evaluating information before relying on it. AI-assisted material does not replace the judgment of a parent, teacher, librarian, or qualified professional.
15. Providers and third-party services
We use service providers to host, secure, authenticate, display, and support the Services. These currently include Cloudflare for StoryBee.ca infrastructure, security, and storage, Cloudflare Email Service for sign in codes and account email, Stripe for payments, Squarespace for StoryBee.Space, and FlipHTML5 for certain book displays. Third-party services and links may have separate terms and privacy practices, and their availability is outside our complete control.
16. Educational purpose and suitability
The Services are for general educational, informational, and reading purposes. They do not provide legal, medical, financial, psychological, educational-assessment, or other professional advice, and they do not guarantee a learning outcome, reading level, curriculum result, or suitability for a particular child or student.
Adults are responsible for reviewing material for a child’s needs, circumstances, maturity, and local educational requirements.
17. Availability and changes
The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” They may be unavailable from time to time for maintenance, security, or reasons outside our control. We may correct, update, replace, withdraw, suspend, or discontinue content, features, subjects, or whole parts of the Services. Availability and display quality can depend on your device, browser, internet connection, location, and third-party providers. Free reading access and features may change as StoryBee develops.
If we discontinue a subject while you hold an active pass that you paid for, we will offer a reasonable remedy at our discretion, which may be a comparable subject, an extension, or a partial refund of the unused part of your pass, consistent with applicable law. This does not apply to courtesy time described in section 6.
18. Suspension and termination
We may restrict, suspend, or end your access or close your account, with or without notice, where reasonably necessary to address a breach of these Terms (including sharing an account or pass, scraping or copying content, or using automated access), protect the Services or another person, comply with law, or respond to a security or rights concern. If we end your access because you breached these Terms, no refund is owed. You may stop using the Services at any time and may delete your account from your dashboard.
19. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation or that every book, feature, question, answer, explanation, classification, recommendation, or other item will be complete, accurate, current, secure, error-free, or suitable for every user, and we do not guarantee any result from using the Services. Additional explanations appear in our Disclaimers.
Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty, condition, right, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.
20. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, StoryBee and the StoryBee Publishers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from or related to the Services, including loss of opportunity, loss of a grade, score, credit, or placement, or loss of data.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the total aggregate liability of StoryBee and the StoryBee Publishers for direct damages arising from or related to the Services will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid directly to StoryBee for the Subject Pass or Services during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or CAD $100.
These limitations do not apply to liability that cannot legally be limited or excluded, including liability for fraud or wilful misconduct where applicable law so requires.
21. Indemnity for user-caused claims
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you will indemnify and hold harmless StoryBee, the StoryBee Publishers, and their directors, officers, employees, and authorized representatives from third-party claims, losses, liabilities, and reasonable legal costs arising directly from your deliberate unlawful use of the Services, unauthorized commercial redistribution or infringement, sharing or reselling of an account or pass, circumvention of security controls, or material breach of these Terms.
This indemnity does not apply to the extent a claim was caused by StoryBee’s or a StoryBee Publisher’s own breach, infringement, negligence, fraud, or wilful misconduct. We will provide reasonably prompt notice of a covered claim and reasonable cooperation. You may not settle a claim in a way that admits fault by, imposes an obligation on, or restricts StoryBee or a StoryBee Publisher without that party’s written consent.
22. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these Terms limits any consumer right or protection that applies to you under the law of the province, territory, or country where you live, including the consumer protection laws of Quebec and other provinces, and that cannot be waived or limited by agreement. Where such a law gives you a right that is greater than a right in these Terms, that law applies to that extent.
23. Governing law and courts
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario. Subject to any mandatory consumer-protection or other law that gives you rights in another jurisdiction, the courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from these Terms or the Services.
24. Changes to these Terms, termination, and survival
We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Services, our practices, or legal requirements. Updated Terms take effect when posted unless a different date is stated, and each version has a version number. Where reasonably practicable, we will provide additional notice of a material change, and we may ask you to accept the new version before you continue. If you do not agree to an update, stop using the Services. Using the Services after an update takes effect means you accept it, to the extent the law allows.
Provisions concerning ownership, permitted use, payment, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, disputes, and any provision that by its nature should survive will continue after access ends.
25. General terms and contact
If a provision is invalid or unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. StoryBee may assign these Terms as part of a corporate reorganization, financing, or transfer of the Services, subject to applicable law. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our written consent.
These Terms and the documents expressly incorporated into them are the entire agreement concerning use of the Services, except for a separate written agreement that applies to a contributor, publisher, partner, or particular feature.
